Leaders Developing Leaders
An institution that forms leaders must be built by people who have carried responsibility themselves. HIL brings together a founder with a decade of community leadership, a governing board committed to accountability, and faculty, facilitators and mentors drawn from real-world leadership.

Rev. Fiifi Essilfie-Hagan
Founder, Hagan Institute of Leadership · Founder & Chief Executive Officer, The Love Jar Foundation
Rev. Fiifi Essilfie-Hagan — known to many as “General Fii” — is a pastor, mentor and institution builder whose work has centred on one question: how do you turn compassion and conviction into lasting change?
In 2017 he founded The Love Jar Foundation, a Ghanaian faith-based organisation that has served vulnerable families, hospital patients, prison communities, widows, children and students across the country. Under his leadership, LoveJar grew from a single conviction into a structured organisation with medical, finance, communications and pastoral leadership.
Years of serving communities — and mentoring young people in schools and campuses along the way — made one need impossible to ignore. Young people needed more than inspiration. They needed formation: a deliberate, structured process for developing identity, character, judgement and the capacity to lead. Hagan Institute of Leadership is his answer to that need.
His leadership philosophy is simple to state and demanding to live: develop the person before the position, measure leadership by what it does for others, and never separate competence from character.
He also hosts Unleashed, a podcast of faith-filled conversations on purpose and leadership.
A jar filled with love never runs dry — it multiplies when poured.Rev. Fiifi Essilfie-Hagan
The Institute
How Our People Are Organised
HIL distinguishes clearly between governance, leadership, delivery and mentorship — so that every participant is served well and every decision is properly accountable.
Governing Board
The Board provides strategic direction and independent oversight of the Institute’s purpose, finances, safeguarding, programme quality and leadership. Its responsibilities and standards are set out in our Governance Policy.
Institutional Leadership
Executive leadership implements the Board’s strategy, manages programmes and partnerships, protects participants and ensures every HIL experience reflects the Institute’s model and values.
Faculty & Facilitators
Our facilitators are educators, practitioners and professionals who can teach leadership because they have practised it. Each is trained in the HIL Model, safeguarding and our standards of conduct before working with participants.
Mentors & Guest Leaders
Experienced leaders, entrepreneurs and professionals give their time to mentorship and leadership conversations, helping participants ask better questions and learn from lived experience.
Our Standard
What We Expect of Everyone Who Represents HIL
Those who teach leadership must model it. Everyone who leads, facilitates, mentors or volunteers with HIL is expected to:
- Demonstrate integrity, professionalism and respect in every interaction.
- Maintain appropriate boundaries, particularly with young people.
- Complete safeguarding orientation and follow our Safeguarding procedures.
- Uphold the HIL Code of Conduct and protect participants’ dignity and privacy.
- Remain open to feedback and committed to their own continued growth.
