HIL Emerging Leaders Programme
Building Leaders Before They Take the Lead
A practical five-day leadership immersion for Junior High and Senior High School students — designed to help young people discover who they are, develop character, make better choices and begin building the leadership capacity they will need for school, career and life.
Why It Matters
The Leader They Become Is Being Formed Now
The habits, judgement and character of tomorrow’s leaders are formed long before anyone gives them a title.
Between the ages of twelve and eighteen, young people make choices that quietly shape their reputation, relationships and future opportunities. They are elected prefects and class captains. They face peer pressure, digital distraction and decisions about who they want to be. Most meet these moments with talent — but without preparation.
The Emerging Leaders Programme gives them that preparation. Over five intentional days, students explore who they are, practise making good decisions, find their voice, learn to lead with others and set a clear direction for their future. They do not just hear about leadership. They practise it, reflect on it and are assessed on it.
And when the five days end, their development does not. Every participant continues into HIL’s continuous leadership development.
The Five-Day Programme
Five Days. Five Foundations of Leadership.
Each day builds on the last, moving students from self-discovery to personal leadership and a clear sense of purpose.
Identity Before Influence
Who am I? Understanding identity, strengths, values and potential — the foundation every leader stands on.
Choices & Character
How everyday decisions shape character, reputation and the opportunities that open — or close — in the future.
Communication & Confidence
Finding your voice, expressing yourself clearly and communicating effectively with peers, teachers and adults.
Leadership & Relationships
Teamwork, empathy, responsibility, handling conflict and influencing others positively.
Purpose & Personal Leadership
Vision, goal-setting, responsibility and becoming intentional about the future.
How Students Learn
Practical, Active and Assessed
Every day combines five ways of learning, so that leadership is experienced — not merely discussed.
- Practical activities that put each day’s theme into action.
- Discussions that sharpen thinking and build the confidence to speak.
- Leadership challenges that test teamwork, initiative and resilience.
- Reflection that turns experience into personal insight.
- Assessment that makes each student’s growth visible.

Practising Leadership Through Service
Through a partnership between Hagan Institute of Leadership and The Love Jar Foundation, selected students also have opportunities to take part in structured volunteer and community-impact activities.
The purpose is to move young people from learning about leadership to practising leadership through service. Participation is structured, supervised and accompanied by reflection and assessment, so that volunteering becomes part of each student’s leadership development.
